A print-ready North Dakota map with Bismarck, Fargo and the other largest cities, all 53 county borders and the Missouri River line that splits the state between two time zones.
What prints
North Dakota is close to a rectangle, and that is what lands on the page: a straight northern border with Canada on the 49th parallel, a straight line with Montana on the west, a straight line with South Dakota on the south, and the meandering Red River of the North forming the eastern edge with Minnesota. The vector print shows all 53 counties as thin grey lines. Because the counties in the west (McKenzie, Williams, Dunn) are large and the eastern counties along the Red River are smaller, the grid looks looser on the left than on the right. Bismarck is starred as the capital on the Missouri River in the middle of the state; the Major cities layer adds Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and West Fargo.
Page orientation
Print in landscape. The state is about 360 miles wide and roughly 210 miles tall, close to the proportions of a landscape Letter or A4 sheet, so the outline fills the paper with little waste. Portrait leaves the top and bottom third blank and shrinks the Red River Valley counties to a size where Cass and Traill counties are hard to separate.
Time zones on the sheet
North Dakota is one of the states split between two time zones. The eastern two-thirds, including Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot, keep Central time. The southwestern corner, roughly the area south of the Missouri River and west of the Little Missouri, including Dickinson, Bowman and Adams counties, is on Mountain time. The zone line is not drawn on the print, so a useful exercise is to trace it by hand using the time zone map as a guide.

The Missouri River and Lake Sakakawea are not printed on the plain map. County names are also absent, so the sheet works as a labeling worksheet with the county map as the answer key. The blank North Dakota map removes the counties and cities entirely.
