Printable Washington map
Washington State on one landscape sheet: Olympia, Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Puget Sound and the borders of all 39 counties.
What prints
The outline of Washington is a near-rectangle with a jagged west side where Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca cut into it, and an irregular south side where the Columbia River separates it from Oregon for most of the border's length. The print shows that outline with 39 county borders. The counties east of the Cascades — Okanogan, Grant, Yakima, Lincoln — are large and print clearly; the small counties packed around Puget Sound (King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, Thurston) are tighter but still legible at Letter size. Olympia, at the southern tip of Puget Sound, is marked with the capital star. The Major cities layer adds Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver, the last sitting directly across the Columbia from Portland, Oregon.
Page orientation
Print landscape. Washington is about 360 miles wide and 240 miles tall, and the landscape sheet puts the Olympic Peninsula and the San Juan Islands at the left edge with the Idaho border at the right. Portrait cuts the map to about two thirds of the possible size and squeezes the Puget Sound counties. Sound, strait and Columbia water surfaces print only on the Streets layer; on the plain map they appear as the shape of the coastline.
What is labeled
- WA via the Abbreviations button.
- Olympia, the capital, on Budd Inlet at the south end of Puget Sound.
- Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and Vancouver on the Major cities layer.
- The 39 county borders.
- The 49th parallel border with British Columbia, the Columbia River and 46°N border with Oregon, and the straight border with Idaho.
The Cascade Range, which divides the wet west from the dry east and is the reason the state's population is so lopsided toward Puget Sound, is not drawn. A useful exercise is to have students draw the crest from Mount Baker in the north past Mount Rainier to Mount Adams near the Oregon line. Use the Washington county map to check county names and the blank Washington map for an outline without the capital and cities.
