Printable Alabama map
A one-page map of Alabama with Montgomery, the largest cities and all 67 county borders, drawn as vectors so it stays sharp on Letter or A4 paper.
What prints
The sheet carries the full outline of Alabama from the Tennessee line at 35°N down to the short Gulf of Mexico shoreline at Mobile Bay, with the 67 county borders drawn as thin grey lines inside the thicker state boundary. Montgomery is marked with the capital star, and the Major cities layer adds Huntsville, Birmingham, Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Hoover as labeled dots. Because the map is rendered as vectors rather than a bitmap, the county lines remain crisp whether you print at 100 percent or scale the page to fill a tabloid sheet. The Tennessee River, which loops through the north of the state past Huntsville and Decatur, and the Alabama and Tombigbee rivers that meet above Mobile are visible on the Streets layer but do not print on the plain map; if you want them on paper, switch layers before pressing Print.
Page orientation
Alabama is roughly 330 miles from north to south and only about 190 miles wide, so print in portrait. In portrait the state fills most of a Letter or A4 page and the smallest counties in the north-central Birmingham area stay readable. Landscape wastes almost half the sheet and shrinks the county borders to the point where Jefferson, Shelby and Walker counties become hard to tell apart. Leave the browser's default margins in place; the print stylesheet already drops the toolbar, header and footer.
What is labeled
- The state name and abbreviation AL (toggle with the Abbreviations button).
- Montgomery, marked as the capital in the middle of the state on the Alabama River.
- Huntsville, Birmingham, Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Hoover on the Major cities layer.
- All 67 county borders, from Lauderdale in the northwest corner to Houston in the southeast corner at the Florida line.
- The straight borders with Tennessee (north), Mississippi (west) and Florida (south), and the Chattahoochee River section of the Georgia border in the southeast.
County names are not printed on the plain sheet, which makes it useful as a fill-in exercise: students can label Mobile County on the coast, Madison County around Huntsville, and Montgomery County around the capital, then check their answers against the county map. For a version with nothing marked at all, use the blank Alabama map.
