What prints
Arkansas prints as a near-rectangle with a ragged eastern edge where the Mississippi River meanders along the Tennessee and Mississippi lines. Inside that outline the sheet draws the 75 county borders, and Little Rock is marked with the capital star almost exactly at the geographic centre of the state on the Arkansas River. Turn on Major cities and Fort Smith appears on the Oklahoma border, Fayetteville and Springdale in the northwest corner, and Jonesboro in the northeast. The Ouachita and Ozark uplands in the west and north and the Delta lowlands in the east are not shaded on the printed sheet but they are visible on the Streets layer if you switch before printing.
Page orientation
Arkansas measures about 240 miles north to south and 275 miles east to west, so it is only slightly wider than tall. Print in landscape to give the eastern counties along the river, which are long and narrow, a little more width. Portrait also works and leaves room below the map for the key, but the 75 counties are among the smaller ones in the country and benefit from every millimetre. Keep the scale at 100 percent; shrinking to fit is not needed on either paper size.

- Little Rock, marked as capital in Pulaski County on the south bank of the Arkansas River.
- Fort Smith, Fayetteville, Jonesboro and Springdale on the Major cities layer.
- All 75 county borders, from Benton in the northwest corner to Chicot in the southeast corner.
- The Mississippi River border on the east, the straight 36°30′ line with Missouri on the north, and the Red River section of the Texas border in the southwest.
The sheet works well for tracing the Arkansas River, which enters from Oklahoma near Fort Smith, passes Little Rock and joins the Mississippi in the southeast. Students can also mark the Missouri Bootheel notch in the northeast corner, where the state line jogs south from 36°30′ to 36°N. County names are on the county map; a sheet with no labels is on the blank Arkansas map.
