Printable capitals-labeled US map
Every state capital marked with a dot and its name, every state marked with its two-letter code. This is the answer key for the capitals worksheet and a study sheet in its own right.
What prints
The 50 states with a filled dot at each capital and the capital's name beside it, plus the state's postal code. In the Northeast the labels are packed tightly — Boston, Providence, Hartford, Concord, Montpelier, Albany, Trenton, Dover and Annapolis all fall within a 300-mile circle — so the sheet is best printed at Letter or A4 landscape and not reduced further. Alaska (Juneau) and Hawaii (Honolulu) are in the inset boxes. No other cities are shown; for a sheet with the 25 largest cities see the cities map.
Print settings
- Press the Print button on the map (or Ctrl+P / Cmd+P). The page switches to a print layout with the map only — no header, navigation or text.
- Orientation: Landscape. The contiguous states are about 1.6 times as wide as they are tall, which matches a landscape Letter or A4 sheet almost exactly.
- Margins: Default or Minimum. Turn off Headers and footers so the URL and date do not print.
- Scale: 100%, or Fit to page if your browser offers it.
- To make a PDF instead of a paper copy, choose Save as PDF as the destination.

Exercises
- Study then test. Read the sheet for ten minutes, then complete the unlabeled worksheet and mark it against this one.
- Sort by size. Circle the four largest capitals (Phoenix, Austin, Columbus, Indianapolis — all above 850,000) and the four smallest (Montpelier, Pierre, Augusta, Helena — all under 35,000).
- Named after people. Underline the capitals named after a person: Jackson, Jefferson City, Lincoln, Madison, Columbus, Columbia, Raleigh, Bismarck, Austin, Denver, Carson City, Charleston, Harrisburg, Pierre, Juneau. That is fifteen.
- Not the biggest city. For each capital that is not its state's largest city, draw a small arrow toward where the largest city is (Albany toward New York City, Sacramento toward Los Angeles, Tallahassee toward Jacksonville).
