What prints

The outline of Nebraska has three straight sides and one river side. The Missouri River forms the whole eastern border with Iowa and Missouri and the northeastern stretch against South Dakota; the rest is surveyed lines, including the notch in the southwest where Colorado's northeast corner bites into the state. The panhandle in the west, three counties wide, stretches to the Wyoming line. All 93 county borders print inside the outline. Lincoln is marked as capital in the southeast, and Omaha — the largest city, on the Missouri some 50 miles to the northeast — appears with Bellevue, Grand Island and Kearney when the Major cities layer is on.

Page orientation

Nebraska is roughly 430 miles across and only about 210 miles tall, so landscape is essential; it is one of the widest outlines relative to height of any state. Portrait would leave two-thirds of the page empty. At landscape Letter scale the counties in the eastern quarter, where they are smallest and most numerous, are around half an inch across — legible, but not roomy enough to write names inside. Cherry County in the Sandhills, the largest, prints at almost two inches wide.

Two time zones

The western part of Nebraska, roughly the panhandle and a band of counties east of it, keeps Mountain time; the rest of the state, including Lincoln, Omaha and Grand Island, is on Central time. The zone line is not printed on the sheet. It runs irregularly along county borders, generally north–south through the middle of the state west of North Platte, which is on Central time.

What is labeled

The Platte River, which crosses the whole state from west to east and carried the Oregon and Mormon trails, does not print on the plain map; turn on Streets before printing if you need it. The blank Nebraska map removes every label; the county map lists the 93 counties and seats.
