Printable North Carolina map
Print North Carolina on one sheet: Raleigh, Charlotte and the other big cities, plus all 100 county lines from the Outer Banks to the Tennessee mountains.
What prints
North Carolina prints as a long wedge, wide in the east where the Outer Banks curve out into the Atlantic and narrowing to a point in the west where the state meets Tennessee and Georgia. The vector outline includes the barrier islands and the big sounds behind them; Pamlico and Albemarle sounds print as open water between the islands and the mainland. The 100 counties, the second-highest count of any state after Texas and Georgia, appear as thin lines and are densest in the Piedmont around Charlotte and the Triad. Raleigh has the capital star, and the Major cities layer adds Charlotte, Greensboro, Durham and Winston-Salem. The Streets layer with terrain shading does not print by default.
Page orientation
This is a landscape state without question. North Carolina runs about 500 miles east to west from Cape Hatteras to the Tennessee line but only about 150 miles north to south at its widest, near the coast. In portrait the map would occupy a thin band across the centre of the page with wasted space above and below. In landscape the western mountain counties, which are small and crowded, get enough width to stay distinct, and the Outer Banks are long enough to be recognisable.

- Raleigh, marked as the capital in Wake County in the eastern Piedmont.
- Charlotte, Greensboro, Durham and Winston-Salem on the Major cities layer.
- All 100 county borders, from Cherokee County in the far western tip to Currituck County in the northeast corner.
- The nearly straight border with Virginia along the north, the South Carolina and Georgia borders to the south and the Blue Ridge crest that forms the Tennessee line.
Rivers such as the Cape Fear, Neuse and Roanoke are not drawn on the plain print, and county names are omitted. That leaves room for exercises: label the three main regions (Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Mountains), mark Mecklenburg County around Charlotte and Wake County around Raleigh, or shade the counties that touch the Atlantic.
