What prints
Arizona has only 15 counties, so this is one of the cleanest county maps to print. The counties are large — Coconino alone in the north is bigger than several eastern states — and every border stays legible even on a small sheet. Phoenix carries the capital star in the middle of the state, and because Phoenix is also the largest city the Major cities layer adds Tucson to the south, Mesa and Chandler in the East Valley, and Scottsdale and Gilbert alongside them. The Colorado River border with California and Nevada is the irregular western edge; the Grand Canyon itself is not drawn on the plain sheet but shows up on the Streets layer across the north of Coconino County.
Page orientation
Arizona is close to square — about 390 miles north to south and 340 miles east to west — so both orientations work. Portrait is the better default: the state fills the page with room beneath it for the key table, and the cluster of cities in Maricopa County prints larger. Choose landscape if you plan to write notes in the margins, since the state leaves more white space on either side. Either way the 15 county lines are far enough apart that nothing runs together.

- The state name and abbreviation AZ on the Abbreviations layer.
- Phoenix, marked as capital on the Salt River in Maricopa County.
- Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale and Gilbert on the Major cities layer; four of the five are Phoenix suburbs, so their dots sit close together.
- All 15 county borders, from Mohave in the northwest to Cochise on the Mexican border in the southeast.
- The straight 37°N border with Utah, the 109°W-ish meridian line with New Mexico, the Colorado River on the west, and the 1853 Gadsden Purchase line with Mexico in the south.
The sheet is well suited to a lesson on the Four Corners, since the northeast corner of the state is the only place in the country where four states meet at a point. Students can shade the Navajo Nation area across Apache, Navajo and Coconino counties, or mark where the Colorado River enters and leaves. Use the county map to check county names and seats, and the blank Arizona map for a sheet with no marks at all.
