Blank New Hampshire map

A blank outline of New Hampshire, a tall triangle with the Connecticut River down one side and the shortest ocean coast of any coastal state at the bottom.

Click a state
Borders: Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont. Quebec lies to the north; the state has about 18 miles of Atlantic coast.

What the outline shows

The map draws New Hampshire's boundary alone. The west edge is the Connecticut River, the whole border with Vermont; the state line is on the Vermont bank, so the river itself is in New Hampshire. The north is a short, angular border with Quebec. The east edge against Maine is a straight line, then the Salmon Falls and Piscataqua rivers to the coast. About 18 miles of Atlantic shore run from Portsmouth to Seabrook. The south edge with Massachusetts is straight, bending slightly near the Merrimack. None of the ten counties is shown. Press Capital to mark Concord on the Merrimack in the southern part of the state, and Abbreviation for "NH".

Portrait or landscape

New Hampshire is about 180 miles from the Massachusetts line to the Canadian border and about 70 miles wide at the bottom, narrowing to under 20 miles at the top. Print in portrait. The tall triangle fills the height of the page and leaves wide margins on both sides for labels. In landscape the state would be small and turned on its side. The short coast and the Isles of Shoals off Portsmouth sit at the bottom right in portrait.

Five classroom exercises

  1. Draw the Merrimack River from the Lakes Region south through Concord, Manchester and Nashua into Massachusetts.
  2. Trace the Connecticut River as the full Vermont border and mark that the state line lies on the Vermont side of the river.
  3. Draw Lake Winnipesaukee in the centre of the state and the White Mountains north of it, with Mount Washington marked as the highest point in the Northeast.
  4. Mark the 18-mile coast between Portsmouth and the Massachusetts line, and label Portsmouth at the mouth of the Piscataqua.
  5. Place Manchester, Nashua, Concord, Dover and Rochester, and draw the straight Maine border north from the Salmon Falls River.
