The northeast notch is where Wyoming cuts into Utah. Neighbours: Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico (at Four Corners), Arizona, Nevada.

What prints

Utah has one of the simplest outlines of any state, a rectangle with a rectangular bite taken out of its northeast corner by Wyoming, and all of its borders are straight surveyed lines. The print shows that outline with its 29 counties inside. Utah's counties are large and irregular, so they read well even at Letter size: Box Elder in the northwest corner, San Juan in the southeast reaching to Four Corners, and the string of small, dense counties along the Wasatch Front where most of the population lives. Salt Lake City is marked with the capital star. The Major cities layer adds West Valley City, West Jordan, Provo and St. George, though the first three sit so close to Salt Lake City that their labels overlap at small print sizes.

Page orientation

Use portrait. Utah measures about 350 miles north to south and 270 miles east to west, and the portrait sheet places the Wyoming notch at top right with room below the state for the key table. Landscape would leave the outline floating in the centre with unused paper on both sides. If your lesson is about the Wasatch Front specifically, zoom the interactive map to the Salt Lake–Provo corridor before printing; the county lines of Salt Lake, Utah, Davis and Weber counties will then fill the page.

What is labeled

Water bodies are not part of the plain print. The Great Salt Lake, Utah Lake and Lake Powell appear only on the Streets layer, so switch to it before printing if you want them on the page. County and city names are left off; the Utah county map is the answer key, and the blank Utah map strips the capital and cities too.
